It's all change at Midlands Fancy Dress! Having been a High Street retailer for over 12 years on Church Green East in Redditch we took the decision in early 2024 to change the way we work.
It's been a tough few years for the high street, so in order to keep trading we've switched back to being online only between March and September. In September we will be welcoming you all back to a brand new shop in Redditch for all your Halloween, Christmas and New Year's Eve fancy dress needs! After 12 years of being on the high street this is quite a change so there may be some adjustments as we negotiate the best ways to make the company work! We are very grateful for your patience.
Our background
Our owner has worked in the Fancy Dress industry since 2004. She started off working for Smiffy's in Redditch town centre while she was still at university and, when it closed, purchased the remaining stock to start her own online Fancy Dress company. Beginning in a family member's spare bedroom with their garage as a stock room she quickly moved operations into her own house and held open days in her living room for Halloween and New Year's Eve. In 2011, Midlands Fancy Dress moved into 13 Church Green East where it would stay for over 12 years. It started out on the second floor which was slowly turned from an office and storage space to a shop, one piece of slat-walling at a time as she could afford it! In time the shop was moved to the ground floor and became a party shop as well as a fancy dress shop as we added balloons and decorations to the range.
In 2024, after 2 years of declining sales the decision was made to switch to a 'pop-up' shop business model. And that's where we are today!
This experience as a High Street retailer means that we have a lot of hands on experience with the items we sell. We’ve helped customers piece together outfits & accessories, seen the costumes being tried on and given customers ideas when they have no idea what to dress themselves or their children as (especially on Book Day!). The people who answer your calls and emails are, therefore, not just call centre workers who only know products as codes on their computer screens.
Costume Sizes – Working with fancy dress hands on, we understand that costumes labelled ‘small’ can range from a UK size 6 to a 12, just like with everyday clothes. Although it’s true that costumes are often elasticated and have belts to pull a costume in or hitch it up, for some costumes (especially the tighter or saucier ones) you need to know they’re going to fit before you purchase them. This is why at Midlands Fancy Dress we hand measure every costume as it comes into stock to ensure we can give you accurate measurements to make your decisions from. Although there may still be some minor discrepancies from elasticity and sewing flaws, we have the most accurate sizing on ANY fancy dress website.

Easy to use site – Our theme based layout has been designed to make it easy for you to find what you’re looking for whilst at the same time inspiring you with accessories, decorations etc that you hadn’t thought of. You can also use the search bar to narrow things down (for mobile users, tap the 3 lines at the top of the page to find the search bar).

Fast, Personal Service – We always use Royal Mail 24 to reduce the time before customers receive their items. You will be contacted via email by one of our staff members within 1 working day of your order being placed to give you information on your order. During Off-peak season (March to September) orders will not be shipped every day but all orders should reach you in 2-5 working days
If for any reason all or part of your order is unavailable you will be contacted within 1 working day of placing the order & offered alternative items or a full or partial refund. Alternatives will never be sent without contacting you first. Please note these estimates do not include Sundays or Bank Holidays when the post office is closed.
